This 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series is one of 350 examples produced, 175 of which were designated for the US market. Finished in Tenorite Gray Metallic over black Exclusive leather upholstery, it is powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 paired with a paddle-shifted five-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. Features include widened Black Series carbon-fiber bodywork, a fixed carbon-fiber roof, 19″ and 20″ AMG twin-spoke alloy wheels, an adjustable suspension, slotted and drilled brake rotors, Electronic Stability Control, carbon-fiber interior trim, dual-zone automatic climate control, Keyless-Go, COMAND infotainment with navigation, and a Harman Kardon LOGIC7 sound system. The current owner acquired the car in 2015 and has since added approximately 3k of the 7,600 miles. This AMG Black Series is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner, a California wholesale dealer, with the owner’s manual, service records, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title.
Compared to the contemporary SL65, Black Series cars feature widened carbon-fiber bodywork and a fixed carbon-fiber roof. This example is finished in Tenorite Gray Metallic and features bi-xenon headlamps with washers and adaptive cornering as well as a speed-sensitive carbon-fiber rear spoiler, a rear diffuser, and polished exhaust outlets.
The forged 19″ and 20″ AMG twin-spoke alloy wheels are mounted with Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT tires measuring 265/35 up front and 325/30 out back. The track is widened by 4.5” at the front and 4.1” at the rear compared to a standard SL65, and the car features an active-roll stabilization system and Electronic Stability Control. Stopping power is provided by silver AMG-branded calipers over slotted and cross-drilled rotors at all four corners. The seller notes the tires need to be replaced.
The cabin features power-adjustable multi-contour sport seats trimmed in black Exclusive leather with model-specific contrast stitching along with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. Carbon-fiber trim accents the center console and doors. Amenities include seat-position memory, massagers, dual-zone automatic climate control, COMAND infotainment with navigation, Keyless-Go, and a Harman Kardon LOGIC7 sound system with an in-dash six-disc CD changer and satellite radio connectivity. The shift knob denotes the car as one of 175 designated for the US market. Imperfections are reported on the ashtray.
The leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel fronts paddle shifters, a 220-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The digital odometer indicates 7,600 miles, approximately 3k of which were added under current ownership.
The hand-assembled 6.0-liter V12 features enlarged twin turbochargers that are unique to Black Series cars, and it was factory rated at 661 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. A plaque bearing the name of the engine’s builder is affixed to the engine cover. The seller reports the battery was recently replaced.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via an AMG Speedshift five-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.
The Carfax report is free from accidents or other damage and shows registration history in Kansas, Colorado, New York, and California through a most recent update in January 2016.
The car is being offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner, a California wholesale dealer, with a clean California title. Should the winning bidder be a private party, the transaction will be processed through a licensed retail dealership.
