This 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL was reportedly purchased by the seller’s father 48 years ago and was acquired in 2007 by the seller. The car is powered by a 2.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and is finished in blue over cream MB-Tex upholstery. Equipment includes a black soft top, a color-matching removable hardtop, a Pioneer CD stereo, a heater, 14″ Gullideckel wheels, and electronic ignition. This W113 Pagoda is now offered with spare upholstery, a hardtop stand, the removed factory steel wheels and covers, manufacturer’s literature, and Ontario registration in the seller’s name.
Finished from the factory in Medium Blue (350), the car is said to have been refurbished in the 1980s and repainted again in 2016 after a ladder fell on the driver-side front bumper panel. Equipment includes a black soft top, a color-matching removable Pagoda hardtop with a heated rear window, chrome bumpers with overriders, dual side mirrors, and a power antenna. A replacement soft top is said to have been installed in 2008.
Gullideckel 14″ wheels are wrapped in 195/70 Michelin X One tires and the car is equipped with power steering. The removed steel wheels and factory covers are included in the sale.
Cream MB-Tex covers the seats and door panels, while blue carpets line the floors. Amenities include a Pioneer CD stereo, a heater, a floor-mounted shifter, and Coco floor mats. Cracks on the dashboard and areas of wear on the wood trim are shown in the gallery below.
The two-spoke steering wheel frames a tachometer and a 140-mph speedometer, along with gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer has reportedly rolled over once and shows 30k miles.
The fuel-injected 2.8L inline-six is said to have been rebuilt in the 1990s and an electronic ignition system was installed in 2017. An oil change was performed in 2022.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. Additional photos of the underside are viewable below.
Decoding the body plate shows the following information:
- 350 – Medium Blue paint
- 248 – Heated rear hardtop window
- 426 – Floor-mounted shifter and power steering
- 491 – US-market example
- 503 – Left side mirror
