This 1988 BMW 325iX is finished in red over beige and powered by a 2.5-liter inline-six paired with a five-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive. Equipment includes 15″ alloy wheels, tinted windows, an onboard computer, a power-operated sunroof, heated front seat covers, a BMW Z3 short shift kit, an aftermarket Scorpion exhaust system, H&R lowering springs, Bilstein shock absorbers, an E34 brake master cylinder, and braided stainless-steel brake hoses. The car spent time in Michigan and Wisconsin before it was acquired and subsequently relocated to California by the seller in 2019. Work completed under current ownership included the replacement of the timing belt, both front fenders, the right front strut housing, refurbishment of the suspension and fuel system, and rebuilding the rear differential. This E30 is now offered at no reserve with spare parts, a service manual, repair invoices, a Carfax report, and a salvage-branded California title in the seller’s name.
The car was factory finished in Zinnoberrot (138) and features tinted windows and a rear spoiler as well as iX-specific fender flares, rocker panel trim, a front spoiler, a power-operated sunroof, a power antenna, and polished dual exhaust outlets. The Carfax report notes “minor damage” occurring to the front and right sides in February 2020, and indicates that the car was “declared a total loss by an insurance company.” Subsequent repairs included replacing and painting the front fenders as well as replacing the right front strut tower with a used unit. The seller notes that the fender extensions and lower body trim around the car were removed and replaced with factory fasteners at that time so that areas of lower body corrosion could be treated. The passenger door is dented and misaligned, the “i” is missing from the rear trunk badging, the mounting holes for the license plate lamps are rusted out, and stone chips and blemishes around the car are shown in the photo gallery below.
The factory 15″ basketweave alloy wheels are finished in dark gray powder-coating and wear 205/55 Nankang Sportnex NS-25 tires. In addition to the aforementioned right front strut housing replacement, suspension work completed since the accident reportedly included the removal and powder-coating rear control arms and the subframe, refurbishment of the front control arms and the sway bars, replacement of the stock rubber suspension bushings, as well as the installation of urethane lower control arm bushings, a UMHW differential mount, and rear-wheel-drive versions of the rear subframe bushings. Modifications under previous ownership included the installation of Bilstein shock absorbers and H&R lowering springs. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, and the seller notes that an E34 brake master cylinder and braided stainless brake hoses were installed under current ownership. Replacement wheel bearings and a wheel stud conversion by ECS tuning have reportedly been installed at all four corners.
The cabin features front sports seats that are fitted with Iggee heated beige vinyl covers which are accompanied by matching inner door panels and a leather rear bench. Amenities include power windows, an aftermarket CD stereo head unit, and black floor mats with Motorsport stripes. The seller notes that LED backlighting for the onboard computer has been installed. Stains are shown on the rear carpeting, wear is present on the rear seat, cracks are visible on the dashboard, and the air conditioning is currently inoperable.
A leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel fronts a 150-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 161k miles, approximately 18k of which were added by the seller. The Carfax report notes a potential odometer rollback in October 2016, and the total mileage is unknown.
The 2.5-liter M20 inline-six was reportedly rebuilt under previous ownership and modifications are said to include a performance camshaft, a lightweight flywheel, and a Turner Motorsports performance chip. The seller notes that a rusted portion of the radiator support was removed under current ownership and the surrounding area was subsequently treated with rust converter. The timing belt was reportedly replaced in 2018, and the fuel system was refurbished and received a replacement fuel tank. The front crank seal is seeping and the seller notes that the head gasket is currently leaking externally and internally.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission with a BMW Z3 short shift kit and a differential that was professionally rebuilt and powder coated in October 2021, according to the seller. The front floor panels were reportedly patched under previous ownership and show evidence of rust. An aftermarket Scorpion exhaust system is shown, oil seepage from the transmission and transfer case is visible, and additional photos of the underside are viewable in the gallery.
A service manual, repair invoices, and spare parts are included in the sale.
The Carfax report shows the aforementioned potential odometer rollback and damage report, the “total loss” declaration, and history in Michigan, Wisconsin, and California from an initial entry in June 1994.
The California title is branded “salvage.”
