This 1964 Ford Thunderbird convertible is finished in white over black and powered by a 390ci V8 paired with a three-speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. Features include a power-operated black convertible soft top, power-assisted brakes, power steering, 14″ chrome wire wheels, power windows, aftermarket speakers, and a push-button AM radio. The car was acquired by the current owner in 2008, and work since 2019 is said to have consisted of fluid services, rebuilding the carburetor, and replacing the convertible top. This Thunderbird is offered in Vermont by the seller on behalf of the owner with partial service records and a Washington State title.
The car is finished in white and is said to have been repainted during previous ownership. Features include a power-operated black soft top, a faux hood scoop, driver-side mirror, quad headlamps, fender-mounted wind splits, rear fender skirts, reverse lamps, chrome bumpers, and dual exhaust outlets that exit below the rear bumper. Paint is chipped on the passenger-side rocker panel and driver-side rear quarter panel, and there are paint bubbles at the base of the passenger-side rear quarter panel. The convertible top is said to have been replaced in 2019.
The 14″ reproduction wire wheels feature three-eared spinner caps and are mounted with BFGoodrich whitewall tires. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by power-assisted drums at all four corners.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in black vinyl along with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Equipment includes a center console, a heater/defroster, a trunk-mounted subwoofer, power windows and door locks, Focal speakers, and a push-button AM radio. The driver’s seat cover seam is split on the top corner.
The two-spoke steering wheel has a Thunderbird-logo horn button and frames a horizontal 120-mph speedometer and additional gauges for oil pressure, fuel level, coolant temperature, and amperage. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 55k miles, approximately 3k of which have been added during current ownership.
The 390ci V8 breathes through a four-barrel carburetor and features a Cobra-branded air intake lid and finned valve covers. The carburetor was overhauled in 2019, while service in 2022 reportedly consisted of replacing the battery and fuel filter as well as a fluid service. The oil pan is seeping.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a three-speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. The transmission cooler lines are leaking. Corrosion is visible on underside components, additional photos of which are provided in the image gallery below.
The Washington title lists a “Classic” brand.
