This 1949 MG YT Tourer is said to have been refurbished in California in 1988 and kept at a museum until it was acquired by the seller in August 2021 and subsequently relocated to Georgia. The car is finished in green over tan vinyl and powered by a 1,250cc XPAG inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include a tan soft top with matching side curtains, a chrome grille and bumpers, 16″ wheels, dual SU carburetors, and a front badge bar and driving lamp. Service under current ownership is said to have included replacing the tires, water pump, and fuel pump as well as refurbishing the carburetors and brake master cylinder. This YT Tourer is now offered with service records and a Georgia title in the seller’s name.
The car is one of 877 YT tourers produced and was refinished in green in 1988 as part of a refurbishment that is said to have been performed by O’Conner MG in Santa Clarita, California. Equipment includes a replacement tan soft top with a matching top boot and side curtains, a chrome grille and bumpers, a badge bar, and a front driving lamp.
Silver 16″ steel wheels wear chrome covers and are mounted with 5.00/5.25 Excelsior tires, which were installed in November 2021. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes which were serviced in November 2021 with a rebuilt master cylinder and brake fluid flush. The left rear wheel is bent.
The cabin features low-back front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in tan vinyl with contrasting piping along with matching door panels and carpets. Equipment includes a wood dashboard, a floor-mounted gear shift, and door panel map pockets.
The banjo-style steering wheel fronts a 6,500-rpm tachometer with an inset clock. A central instrument cluster houses an ammeter and gauges for oil pressure and fuel level, while a 105-mph speedometer is located in front of the passenger. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 71k miles. Total mileage is unknown.
The 1,250cc XPAG inline-four is equipped with dual SU carburetors and was rated to produce 54 horsepower when new. Service under current ownership included replacing the water pump, electric fuel pump, freeze plugs, engine plates, and gaskets as well as rebuilding the carburetors and flushing the coolant.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
The Georgia title is listed as “Conditional”.
