This Ford Mustang Fastback is a non-running project that is comprised of body parts from a 1965 Mustang and components said to be sourced from a 1966 Shelby GT350, and it was acquired in 2021 by the current owner following a reported 30 years of storage. The car has been stripped of its interior, glass, suspension, and powertrain, and the sale includes a 289ci V8 and a four-speed manual transmission. Additional items accompanying the sale include existing and replacement interior pieces, hardware, trim, and numerous braking and suspension components. This Mustang project is now offered at no reserve on behalf of the current owner in California with an assortment of parts, a rolling rotisserie stand, blue California license plates, historical registration documents, correspondence from the Shelby American Automobile Club, and California titles in the seller’s name for a 1965 Ford Mustang and a 1966 Shelby Mustang.
The seller states that the 1966 Shelby GT350 with the serial number SFM6S1130 was wrecked in a crash in the 1970s, and the owner at that time purchased a theft-recovered 1965 Ford Mustang with VIN 5F09A782578 to rebody the Shelby components. The disassembled body wears a faded primer finish, and body modifications are said to include rear quarter panel window bracing, lowered pickup points for the front suspension, secondary reinforcement on the firewall for the shock tower brace, holes integrated into the quarter panels for rear brake cooling, and openings for traction bar mounts.
The body is mounted on a rolling rotisserie stand that is included in the sale. Exterior components included in the sale are said to consist of the following:
- Convex quarter windows
- Rear bumper
- Taillight filler panel with gas filler
- Rubber body plugs and grommets
- Weather seals
- Side scoops
- Front and rear lower valances
- Front and rear bumpers with mounting brackets and bumper guards
- Splash pan
- Windshield wipers and motor assembly
- Rain gutters and window trim moldings
- Vent windows and door glass
- Rear window
- Taillights, parking lights, and backup lights
- GT350 gas cap

- Two body stripe kits
- Four mirrors
- Yellow-on-blue California plates along with plate frames
A set of 14″ aluminum wheels are included in the sale, along with Shelby and Cobra-branded center caps and 20 chrome-finished wheel bolts. Suspension and braking components in the parts package are said to include the following:
- Four Koni shock absorbers
- Four front coil springs
- Rear springs
- 1″ front swaybar
- Traction bars
- Two front hubs and spindles
- Two calipers and disc brakes
- Two lower control arms
- Four tie rod ends
- Stainless-steel brake lines
- Steering box
- Master cylinder
- Ford 9″ rear axle assembly
An instrument cluster is included in the sale, as well as a Cobra-branded tachometer and various interior components including:
- Window winders

The 289ci V8 is included in the sale along with the stand it is mounted on, and the engine is equipped with Cobra-branded valve covers, Tri-y exhaust headers, an aluminum intake manifold, a Holley carburetor, and a Cobra-branded oil pan with temperature sensor. Casting numbers are shown in the gallery below, and it is unknown how recently the engine was operational. Photos of the four-speed manual transmission included in the sale are viewable in the gallery below, and also included are tri-y headers, a 9″ rear axle assembly, an oil pump pickup, and a battery tray.
VIN sequence 5F09A782578 from the body is pictured above and corresponds to an A-code 1965 Mustang, and the California title for the 1965 Mustang is shown in the gallery below.
VIN sequence 6R09K164133 is shown above and corresponds to a 1966 K-code Mustang.
Shelby American Automobile Club correspondence confirms that the serial number SFM6S1130 aligns with a Shelby serial number recorded in their files. The California title for a 1966 Shelby VIN SFM6S1130 is also shown in the gallery, and that VIN is currently registered Planned Non-Operational in the state. There is no Shelby VIN tag included in the sale.
