This 1969 Shelby Mustang GT500 fastback was delivered new to Frontier Motors of Rapid City, South Dakota and was refurbished under previous ownership in 2018. Finished in maroon over white vinyl upholstery, the car is powered by a 428ci Cobra Jet V8 linked to a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Other equipment includes a roll bar, fog lamps, 15” wheels, power steering, front disc brakes, a Sport Deck rear seat, and an AM radio. The selling dealer acquired the car in a June 2021 BaT auction. Subsequent work has included adding an air-conditioning system, correcting a power-steering leak, adjusting the carburetor, and replacing the starter, ignition components, oil-pressure switch, coolant-hose clamps, coolant, radiator cap, voltage regulator, and battery. This GT500 is now offered in California with build sheets, an order invoice, a Deluxe Marti report, service records, and a clean Minnesota title.
Finished in Royal Maroon (B5) from the factory, the car is said to have been repainted under previous ownership and features white vinyl GT500 side stripes. Additional equipment includes three NACA ducts in the hood, a retractable antenna, factory-optional tinted glass, body-color side mirrors, central exhaust outlets, fog lights, and chrome bumpers.
Five-spoke 15” aluminum-faced wheels feature gray-painted centers with polished lips and are wrapped in Goodyear Polyglas GT white-letter tires. A spare is located in the trunk, and braking is provided by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. In January 2022 the power-steering pump was repaired and a leak in the system was addressed.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a Sport Deck rear seat trimmed in white Clarion knit vinyl with matching door panels and black carpeting protected by red plastic floor mats. Woodgrain trim accents the dash and door panels, and equipment includes a roll bar, a Philco push-button AM radio, an analog clock, a center console, and power steering. The selling dealer installed an air-conditioning kit from Classic Auto Air in September 2021. The door alarm was removed to address a parasitic voltage draw.
A woodgrain three-spoke steering wheel frames instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. Additional gauges for oil pressure and voltage are positioned in the center console, and the five-digit odometer shows 92k miles. Approximately 100 miles have been added under current ownership.
The 428ci Cobra Jet V8 is said to have been rebuilt during the aforementioned refurbishment. Service by the selling dealer has included adjusting the carburetor and replacing the starter, oil-pressure switch, coil, spark plugs, ignition switch, fuel-sending unit, radiator cap, coolant-hose clamps, coolant, voltage regulator, and battery.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a close-ratio four-speed manual transmission and a Traction-Lok differential with 3.50:1 gearing. Additional underbody photos are presented in the gallery below.
The Deluxe Marti report lists the color scheme, factory equipment, build statistics, and a production date of December 26, 1968. A build sheet and dealer invoice indicating a retail price of $5,115 are provided in the gallery.
A number of receipts dating back to 2018 will also accompany the vehicle.
