This 1979 Porsche 924 is one of 1,292 limited-edition Sebring ’79 models built to commemorate the manufacturer’s contemporary racing victories. The car is powered by a 2.0-liter inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transaxle and is finished in Guards Red over black leatherette and red-and-blue plaid cloth. Equipment includes 14″ eight-spoke alloy wheels, pop-up headlights, a removable sunroof, fog lights, a cassette stereo, and a heater. This 924 was purchased by the seller in September 2021 and is now offered with a Porsche Production Specifications certificate, the owner’s manual, and a clean Indiana title in the seller’s name.
The car left the factory finished in Guards Red and is said to have been repainted under previous ownership without Sebring edition-specific factory stripes and scripts. Equipment includes pop-up headlights, Hella fog lights, a removable sunroof, power-adjustable mirrors, an electric antenna, black front and rear bumperettes, and a single exhaust outlet. Work performed under previous ownership in 2021 reportedly included the replacement of the sunroof seals and latches, the door handle and side mirror gaskets, and a ceramic coating treatment. Delamination along the edges of the rear window can be seen in the photo gallery below.
Black pressure-cast 14″ eight-spoke alloy wheels with polished lips are mounted with 185/70 Hankook Optima H724 tires. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. According to the seller, the inner and outer tie rods and boots were replaced, the brake fluid was flushed, and the steering rack was greased in 2021.
The front and rear seats are upholstered in black leatherette and feature red-and-blue plaid cloth inserts with matching door panels. Equipment includes a Blaupunkt cassette stereo with a 3.5mm auxiliary connector, a three-speaker sound system, power windows, and a heater.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 170-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 48k miles, approximately 400 of which were added under current ownership. The odometer was broken under prior ownership, and true mileage is unknown.
Power is from a 2.0-liter inline-four fitted with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection that was factory rated at 110 horsepower and 111 lb-ft of torque. Work performed under previous ownership in 2021 is said to have included the replacement of the timing belt, the valve cover gaskets, the front camshaft seal, the front crankshaft seal, the spark plugs, the fuel pump, and the oil pan along with the hood pad.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle. The shift shaft seal and shift bushings were reportedly replaced under previous ownership.
The Porsche Production Specifications certificate shows factory colors and optional equipment, including the Sebring Package.
