This 1956 Mercedes-Benz 190SL is said to have been kept in storage for much of the last 57 years and was acquired by the seller around 27 years ago. Finished in white with a matching hardtop over dark blue vinyl upholstery, the car is powered by a 1.9-liter inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include a Navy blue soft top, an AM radio, and body-color steel wheels with matching hubcaps and chrome trim rings. This 190SL is being offered with an uninstalled Judson supercharger, the removed rear bumper, other spare parts, manufacturer’s literature, a mileage and fuel log, and a clean Wisconsin title in the seller’s name.
The car is said to have been repainted its current shade of white in 1996. Exterior features include a Navy blue soft top, a removable body-color hardtop, chrome stone guards ahead of the rear wheels, and dual fog lamps mounted behind the grille. The taillight lenses are faded, the soft top is worn, and the rear window discolored. Areas of pitted brightwork are noted by the seller, and various paint chips and scratches can be seen up close in the gallery below. The removed rear bumper and mounting brackets are included in the sale.
Body-color 13” steel wheels feature matching hubcaps and chrome trim rings and are mounted with 185/80 All Season Custom 428 tires that should be replaced due to age. The seller notes that the brake booster is in need of service.
The cabin houses seats trimmed in dark blue vinyl with a matching dashboard top, door panels, and carpets. Equipment includes black rubber floor coverings, a dash-mounted rear-view mirror, a locking glovebox, and an AM radio. The seat upholstery is faded and discolored.
An ivory-color two-spoke steering wheel with a chrome horn ring frames VDO instrumentation that includes a 7k-rpm tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, and a suite of auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 48k miles.
The 1.9-liter M121 inline-four sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The hose from the air cleaner to the intake manifold is missing. A spare cylinder head will accompany the vehicle, along with an uninstalled Judson supercharger and additional spare parts. The seller notes that the piston in cylinder #3 was replaced in 1995.
Areas of corrosion and rust-through are visible on the frame, underside, and exhaust components as shown in additional photos provided in the gallery below.
