This 1963 Ford Galaxie 500XL convertible is finished in black over black vinyl upholstery and powered by a 390ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a power-operated black soft top, 15″ five-spoke American Racing wheels, front disc brakes, power steering, chrome trim, bucket seats, a center console, air conditioning, a Grant steering wheel, and a push-button AM radio. The car was acquired by the seller in August 2020, and work completed in 2021 consisted of refreshing the braking and air conditioning systems, rebuilding the engine, and replacing the convertible top motor. This Galaxie 500 is offered with a spare key and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.
The body was repainted in its current shade of black under prior ownership. Features include quad headlights, a driver-side mirror, Galaxie 500XL badging, dual exhaust outlet, and chrome trim on the bumpers, grille, side molding, and window surrounds. Corrosion is visible on the bumpers.
Polished 15″ American Racing five-spoke wheels wear 235/60 Cooper Cobra Radial G/T white-letter tires. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums rebuilt in spring 2021 with a replacement master cylinder along with slotted and cross-drilled front rotors. A spare wheel is mounted in the trunk.
The front bucket and rear bench seating wear black vinyl upholstery and are complemented by a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Polished trim accents the dashboard and center console, and additional equipment includes lap belts for four occupants, air conditioning, a glovebox, polished door sills, manually-operated windows, “Galaxie” script floor mats, a console-mounted gear selector, and a push-button AM radio. The convertible top motor is said to have been replaced, the radio is missing a dial, and the seller notes that the right-side window does not operate smoothly.
The Grant steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and gauges indicating fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer indicates 12k miles, approximately 1k of which have been added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.
The 390ci V8 was reportedly rebuilt in the spring of 2021 and breathes through a four-barrel carburetor. The air conditioning components were serviced at the time of the engine rebuild.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. A dual exhaust system is installed, and additional underside images are provided in the gallery.
