This 1940 American Bantam Model 65 roadster is finished in black and burgundy over red upholstery and is powered by a 750cc inline-four paired with a three-speed manual transmission. The car was acquired by the owner in 2005 and is said to have been refurbished over a 10-year period. Work consisted of removing the body from the frame, repainting the body, rebuilding the engine, rechroming the trim, retrimming the interior, and replacing the black soft top. Equipment includes 15″ painted steel wheels with hubcaps, whitewall tires, fender skirts, chrome trim, a rear-mounted spare wheel, black-dial “Bantam” instruments, and a push-button starter. This American Bantam Roadster is offered on dealership consignment with manufacturer’s literature, a service summary, Concours awards, removable side curtains, a factory jack, and a clean California title.
The car is finished in black with burgundy side accents and was repainted in 2015. Equipment includes a black soft top, folding windshield, bumper overriders, removable side curtains, and chrome trim on the bumpers, fender skirts, windshield surround, and hood ornament. The soft top was replaced and the trim rechromed.
Black-painted 15″ steel wheels wear chrome “Bantam” hubcaps and are fitted with BFGoodrich Silvertown whitewall tires. Braking is handled by cable actuated four-wheel drums. A spare wheel is mounted on the rear, and a jack and lug wrench are included in the sale and pictured in the gallery below. The brake cables were replaced and the shoes relined as part of the refurbishment.
The interior features bench seating upholstered in red with matching door panels and black carpets. Additional equipment includes a burgundy-painted dashboard, a floor-mounted shifter, a fire extinguisher, and a push-button starter. The interior was retrimmed during the refurbishment.
The three-spoke steering wheel fronts central “Bantam” instrumentation consisting of an 80-mph speedometer and a combination gauge displaying amperage, fuel level, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows over 1,100 miles, and total mileage is unknown.
The 750cc inline-four was reportedly rebuilt during the refurbishment using replacement pistons, bearings, valves, and a Zenith carburetor.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed manual transmission. Additional underside images are provided in the gallery.
