This 1981 Datsun 280ZX is finished in metallic blue over a gray and blue interior and is powered by a 2.8-liter inline-six paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Features include removable glass T-top roof panels, air conditioning, a Kenwood AM/FM CD stereo, electric windows, and 14” alloy wheels. The car was acquired by the seller around a year ago, reportedly from the second owner, and subsequent work included replacement of the shocks, starter, alternator, tires, front ball joints, and heater valve. Now showing 121k miles, this 280ZX is being offered with service records from current ownership and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
This is a re-list after the car was previously listed on BaT earlier in June 2022. The earlier auction was withdrawn following a mixup in communication on our end that resulted in the car going live before it should have.
The car is finished in metallic blue and is said to have undergone a repaint in 2005. Exterior features include removable glass T-top roof panels, black rubber bumpers with chrome trim, body-color side mirrors, mud guards, and rear 3/4 window louvers. The hatch struts have reportedly been replaced during current ownership. Areas of corrosion are visible on the hatch and door jambs, and paint chips are noted by the seller.
The 14” alloy wheels feature Z-branded center caps and are mounted with 205/70 Hankook Kinergy ST tires that were installed in July 2021. Braking is through discs at all four corners. Work performed in June 2021 included installing polyurethane suspension bushings and replacing the front strut inserts, rear struts, and front ball joints.
The cabin houses seats trimmed in blue fabric and gray vinyl along with a blue dashboard, matching carpets, and two-tone door panels. Amenities include air conditioning, electric windows, and a Kenwood AM/FM CD stereo. A crack and discoloration are visible in the dashboard, and a carpeted dash mat is included in the sale. The air conditioning was recharged in June 2021.
A two-spoke steering wheel with an aftermarket cover frames an 85-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,400-rpm redline. A trio of auxiliary gauges are located in the center stack. The six-digit odometer shows 121k miles, around 3k of which have been added during current ownership.
The 2.8-liter L28E inline-six features Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection and was rated at 145 horsepower from the factory. The starter, alternator, and heater valve were replaced in 2021, and the seller also states that the catalytic converter, fuel filter, and air filter were replaced. A fluid leak is noted.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. An aftermarket exhaust system has been installed. Areas of corrosion are visible on the underside, and additional photos are provided in the gallery below.
