This 1965 Ford Mustang is finished in white over white and blue vinyl, and its 289ci V8 is paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes an 8″ rear end, 14″ wheels with wire-style covers, unassisted drum brakes, power steering, and a push-button AM radio. The car was acquired in 1997 by the selling dealer, and since then the paint has been refinished and the fuel tank has been replaced. In preparation for the sale the fluids were changed and the carburetor was rebuilt. This Mustang is now offered with a clean Texas title.
The car was refinished under current ownership in 1999, and in 2013 the color was changed from light blue to white. Features include Ford lettering across the hood, an aftermarket antenna, and chrome-finished bumpers with guards. Cracks are noted in the paint.
Black 14″ steel wheels wear wire-style covers and are mounted with Ironman white-stripe tires. The car is equipped with power-assisted steering, and the four-wheel drum brakes are unassisted.
The interior features Deluxe-style blue and white vinyl upholstery on the seating surfaces complemented by color-coordinated door panels, trim panels, and carpeting. A Ford-branded AM radio is present in the dashboard, and the air conditioning does not blow cold.
A three-spoke steering wheel frames instrumentation that includes a 140-mph speedometer flanked by four gauges to monitor fuel level, oil pressure, amperage, and water temperature. The five-digit odometer odometer shows 85k miles, 2k of which have been added under current ownership; true mileage is unknown. The woodgrain trim is peeling from the instrument cluster, and the dash pad is warped.
The C-code 289ci V8 was rated at 200 horsepower and 282 lb-ft of torque when new. The engine features a gold air-cleaner assembly with an orange 289 sticker, and cast-iron exhaust manifolds feed a single exhaust with a transversely mounted muffler ahead of the replacement fuel tank. Recent service is said to have included rebuilding the carburetor and changing the fluids.
Power is delivered to the wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and an 8″ rear axle. The seller notes corrosion on underbody components as well as an area of rust in the driver-side floor pan, and additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery below.
The vehicle warranty number reveals that the car is a 1965 model built at the Dearborn, Michigan plant and originally powered by a 289ci V8 with a two-barrel carburetor. The data plate shown above decodes as follows:
- Body 65B – Mustang Coupe with Deluxe interior
- Color F – Arcadian Blue (Spring 1965 and 1966 color)
- Trim 62 – Blue & White Deluxe interior
- Date 25S – May 25 build date
- DSO 64 – New Orleans, Louisiana sales district
- Axle 6 – 2.80:1 standard differential
- Trans 6 – C-4 automatic transmission
