This 1977 Volkswagen Type 2 is a pop-top Westfalia camper that was acquired by the seller in 2002, and 14k miles have since been added. Refinished in yellow over green and orange plaid cloth, the bus is powered by a fuel-injected 2.0L flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Features include a pop-up tent with an upper bunk and mesh windows, 14″ steel wheels with VW-stamped hubcaps, VDO instrumentation, a cassette stereo, a swiveling passenger seat, a front child’s bunk, a folding rear bench, a collapsible table, a sink with a faucet, and a portable two-burner stovetop. Service in March 2022 included bleeding the brakes, changing the oil, and replacing the muffler. This Westfalia bus is now offered with records, a maintenance booklet, and a clean Washington title in the seller’s name.
The bus was refinished in yellow under previous ownership, and it features a white Westfalia pop-up roof, jalousie side windows, and a spare mounted to the nose.
Silver-painted 14″ steel wheels wear chrome-finished hubcaps and are mounted with Jupiter tires. In August 2002 a brake service was reportedly performed and the tie rods were replaced. The brakes were bled in March 2022.
Bucket seats with green and orange tartan cloth upholstery are located up front. VDO instrumentation includes a 90-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and a fuel gauge along with an added auxiliary cluster under the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 98k miles, approximately 14k of which have been added by the seller over the past two decades.
The passenger seat swivels to face the rear area, where the previous owner installed a portable Primus two-burner cook stove to replace the factory Westfalia unit. Other features include a a sink with a faucet, a pop-up table, a fire extinguisher, a pantry, rear closet space, and yellow curtains.
The rear bench is trimmed to match the front seats and folds flat to provide additional sleeping space. The pop-top sleeping area with orange tent sides is shown in the gallery.
The 2.0-liter flat-four utilizes fuel injection and is said to have been rebuilt in August 2002. A Compu-Fire ignition system and an oil cooler with a thermostatically controlled fan were installed at that time, the starter and alternator were rebuilt, and the fuel pump was replaced. Work in March 2022 is said to have included replacing the muffler and changing the oil.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle which reportedly received a replacement clutch in 2002. Additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery below.
Receipts and records will accompany the sale along with a VW maintenance booklet. A three-image M-plate decode is provided in the gallery and indicates the bus was delivered new with a pop-up Westfalia roof and was finished in Chrome Yellow over Camping Green tartan cloth.
