This 1979 Land Cruiser FJ40 was reportedly refurbished and modified during previous ownership and is powered by a GM-sourced 350ci V8 mated to a three-speed automatic and a dual-range transfer case. The truck is finished in tan over black leather, and additional equipment includes a black bikini top, 15″ chrome wheels, 37″ tires, power-assisted steering, a lift kit, aftermarket bumpers, a winch, air conditioning, a roll cage, and an aftermarket stereo. The seller acquired the truck in 2020, and subsequent work included fluid flushes, an overhaul of the transfer case, installation of a transmission cooler, and replacement of the transmission, front drive shaft, engine mounts, and various bushings and brake components. This FJ40 is offered with service records and a clean Virginia title in the seller’s name.
The truck is said to have been finished from the factory in red and was repainted tan during previous ownership with the mirrors, hood latches, and wiper arms finished in white. Equipment includes a black vinyl bikini top, louvered hood vents, aftermarket front and rear bumpers, a winch, fog lights, side-steps, a receiver hitch, and black rear fender flares. . Other blemishes are shown up close in the gallery below.
Chrome 15″ wheels are mounted with 37×12.50 Dick Cepeck Radial FC II tires, and a full-size spare is affixed to the swing-out rear carrier. A lift kit with Rancho shocks was installed during previous ownership, and the truck is equipped with power steering and manual-locking front hubs. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. Service carried out in March 2022 included replacement of the traction bar, leaf spring bushings, master cylinder, brake lines, and parking brake cable.
The cabin features aftermarket bucket seats and a folding rear bench trimmed in black leather with tan inserts and “FJ40” embroidered backrests. Amenities include air conditioning, a heater, a black dash pad, manual-crank side windows, a locking center console, a storage compartment beneath the rear seat, a roll cage, and an aftermarket stereo.
A three-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts aftermarket Auto Meter gauges consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary meters for fuel level, voltage, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The six-digit odometer shows under 62k miles, approximately 1,500 of which have been added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The seller notes that the speedometer does not read accurately at higher speeds.
The General Motors 350ci Ram Jet V8 was installed during previous ownership and features chrome valve covers, stainless-steel headers, and a Champion aluminum radiator. Service carried out during current ownership included replacement of the motor mounts, starter, and battery.
Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a three-speed TH350 automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Service carried out in March 2022 included an overhaul of the transfer case, installation of a transmission cooler, and replacement of transmission and front drive shaft.
