This 2000 Corbin Sparrow is a three-wheeled electric vehicle that is finished in yellow over gray leather and powered by a 156-volt DC motor with a single-speed transmission. Equipment includes a high-frequency onboard charger, a water-cooled Zilla motor controller and interface box, triple disc brakes, a heater/defroster, and a CD receiver. The car was produced in September 2000 and acquired by the seller from its previous owner of 16 years in October 2021. Subsequent work included replacing all 13 of the vehicle’s Optima Yellowtop batteries. This Sparrow is now offered at no reserve with service records, wiring diagrams, a battery monitor manual, a Palm IIIxe personal digital assistant and data cable, a vehicle charging cable, removed parts, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The composite monocoque chassis is finished in yellow and features a locking curb-side door, dimpled fenders, rear-wheel skirts, a single windshield wiper, automotive safety glass, dual mirrors, and a “Pizza Butt” trunk as well as a single headlight, dual taillights, and a backup light. Close-up photos showing scrapes and touch-ups on the lower body can be viewed in the gallery.
Five-spoke alloy wheels are wrapped in Wynstar R23 Phaser tires. Suspension is provided by double A-arms up front and a single-sided swingarm at the rear with coil-overs all around. Braking is managed by triple Wilwood discs for which the master cylinder was replaced in October 2021. The swingarm was replaced in 2005, and the removed factory unit is included in the sale.
The cabin is trimmed in gray leather with yellow piping as well as matching door panels and carpeting. Features include a bucket seat with a head restraint and a three-point seat belt as well as a heater/defroster, power windows, and a CD receiver with speakers mounted in the seatback. Trunk storage behind the seat is accessible from the inside.
The three-spoke Grant steering wheel fronts a body-colored composite dash housing a centered 85-mph speedometer flanked by a battery charge monitor and an ammeter. The five-digit odometer shows 10k miles.
An Advanced DC Motors 156-volt series-wound DC motor rated at 20 kilowatts and 100 lb-ft of torque is powered by 13 Optima Yellowtop lead-acid batteries, six of which are located under the front hood with the remaining seven in the floor under the seat. All 13 batteries were replaced in October 2021.
Charging is through a port at the right-front of the car, which is equipped with an onboard high-frequency Zivan charger.
A 1k-amp water-cooled Zilla motor controller and Hairball 2 interface box from Cafe Electric were installed in May 2005. The unit is programmable and is accompanied by a Palm IIIxe PDA with a data cable.
Power is sent to the rear wheel through a single-speed transmission and a Gates toothed drive belt.
The vehicle is titled in California as a motorcycle.
