This 1973 Pinzgauer 712M is a six-wheel-drive troop carrier that is said to have been refurbished in the early 2000s by So. Cal Pinzgauer for actor and former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. The truck is finished in drab green and powered by an air-cooled 2.7L inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transaxle, a dual-range transfer case, and three locking differentials. Additional features include a canvas soft top with roll-up sides, a Mile Marker front winch and brush guard, portal axles, rear pintle hitch, high-back bucket seats, Kenwood CD stereo, and body-color steel wheels. This Pinzgauer 6×6 was acquired by the current owner approximately a decade ago and is now offered on consignment by the selling dealer with a tool kit and a clean Missouri title.
The 6×6 Pinzgauer 712 was an evolution of the Austrian Steyr-Daimler-Puch Haflinger 4×4 military off-road vehicle of the late 1960s, and this example features a removable canvas top with roll-up sides over the cargo area, along with another soft top over the front cab. The truck was repainted its current shade of drab green in the early 2000s, and exterior features include a Mile Marker front winch and brush guard, a rear pintle hitch, dual side mirrors, black rubber side impact strips, and storage lockers on the left side of the vehicle. Areas of corrosion are visible on the driver’s door.
All six green-painted steel wheels are fitted with BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires, and a matching spare is mounted to the rear tailgate. Braking is handled by drums all around, and the truck is equipped with portal axles.
The cabin houses aftermarket high-back bucket seats trimmed in white fabric and black vinyl. Equipment includes shoulder belts for both front occupants, a central storage box with dual cupholders, steel diamond plate floor coverings, rifle holders, and a Kenwood CD stereo wired to overhead speakers. Note that the pictured rifles are not included in the sale.
A three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of an 80-mph VDO speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and a fuel level gauge. Controls for the shift-on-the-fly hydraulically-operated locking differentials and six-wheel drive are mounted in the center console, and push/pull breaker buttons on the dash control circuits for the 24-volt electrical system. The digital odometer shows 2k miles, around 50 of which have been added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The cargo area houses two rows of black vinyl bench seats with lap belts.
The air-cooled 2.7L inline-four is mounted between the front seats and sends power to all six wheels via a synchronized five-speed manual transaxle, a synchronized dual-range transfer case that allows for engaging and disengaging on the fly, and three locking differentials.
